CBS Fire Your Internet Marketing Team!
Posted on February 23rd, 2007Whomever is in charge of CBS’s internet marketing needs to get a clue or get fired! Let me tell you why!?
As a Die-Hard “Survivor” fan (I mean crazy crack eating Survivor freak) it pisses me off when I try to get to the offical website to get the latest scoop. Try it. Of course I do not know the domain name off the top of my head so where do I go? Google.com and search for “survivor.” The #1 results reads:
Survivor: Cook Islands on CBS
Official site for Survivor: Cook Islands on CBS. Find cast bios and favorites, read episode recaps, play Survivor games, and watch Survivor Live.
www.cbs.com/primetime/survivor - 15k - Cached - Similar pagesTo the normal internet user it looks like the most valid result, yet click on it. Where do you go? You are 302 redirected to http://www.cbs.com/primetime/survivor13/. But what the hell that is not the current survivor show. It is last season!
Attention to CBS Internet Marketing Team here are two recommendations for you!
1. If you are doing a 302 redirect please send it the current season. It is not that hard. Redirect to http://www.cbs.com/primetime/survivor14/
2. Why not buy a unique domain name for each season and brand it during your commercials!? www.SurvivorFiji.com or www.CBSSurvivorFiji.com!
CBS if you do not want to look stupid practice the basics.
Update:
I have sent in a feedback form to CBS regarding this. We will see what they come back with.

I hate splash intro pages! Just give me information.
Posted on January 24th, 2007
I really wanted to punch my computer when I went over to Guinness World Records website. I wanted some quick information about something strange to get some link bait ideas going. (I know it is a strange place to get inspired) Well when I went there I had to wait 32 damn seconds before I got to the main homepage. The internet is all about instant information. If I have to wait 32 seconds before I can even start looking for information why the hell would I use your site or come back to it. Wait I know…. so I can wait another 32 seconds. It’s not like I have anything better to do in my life then watch some stupid intro. I mean at least make the splash intro entertaining. I mean who the hell is this guy? Is it really necessary for me to watch him drive up in car, take an elevator (or a lift for you brits), and then walk down a hall way to push a button! I encourage anyone reading this to take a look and see if it does not drive you nuts or makes you want to blow chunks!
Bottom line is that splash pages are hard to optimize for SEO purposes and it destroys the user experience.
I am not the only one that thinks splash intro pages are a bad idea.

Wikiseek = Wikisucks
Posted on January 16th, 2007So what do you get when you take adsense + search engine + wikipedia = wikiseek.com or as I like to call it wikisucks.
Why do I need another adsense infused site? I mean wikipedia search works just fine for me. Normally you make a product to full fill some need. Did we really have a need for wikipedia search with ads?
I mean look at what I get when I search “peron” (o yea my last name) over at wikipedia:

Nice and Clean! This is what I get with wikiseek:

Notice that the first 3 results look like sponsored ads from Google. O yea on the right hand side is the nice skyscraper ads. (sorry i did not capture this, but take a look yourself)
I know what would be great! If someone would come out with a search engine for (X site - please input any site you want here) that is infused with ads!
