Lisa from Online Marketing Mavens discovered that Earthlink might be spamming Google Local.

Last Friday I found that Big Local was spamming the Google Local, now Earthlink is?

    Check this out!

    Google Local Spam

    More Google Local Spam

Looks like Earthlink has over 1,700 listing in Google local!?

Is this another case of a bulk upload to Google local gone wrong? I think so!

[...] Recent reports of bulk upload Earthlink MapSpam may in fact be “spam” coming to Google from one of its “trusted” primary data suppliers instead. [...]

      Hey imnotadoctor,

To introduce myself, I’m a member of the Google Maps team, originally from the Maps Help Group but now expanding my circle of posting into the outside world (such as your blog). I wanted to start off by thanking you and Online Marketing Mavens for flagging this spam. As you may have noticed, these listings have been removed. This particular case was added through a bulk feed in our Local Business Center. We’re actively working to implement some processes that will prevent these types of spam from displaying in Google Maps. We don’t expect that these particular listings will crop up again anytime soon, but please let us know if you see anything!

      Cheers,
      Jen

[...] On May 6th Imnotadoctor.com noted that Earthlink had made quite a mapspam splash. In Google Maps: More Bulk Upload Mapspam or bad data from a Trusted Source. I questioned the source of the many listings, theorizing that it came not from a bulk upload but from a data feed. It now appears to be completely gone.  « Local Seo Tracking Software –  [...]

[...] Placement in Google Maps results (and thus prominently in Google search results) has become an increasingly high stakes game for some with corresponding instances of mapspam. Amazingly, even one of Google’s partners, Earthlink, has apparently engaged in it. [...]

Another extreme case of spam in the local business centre. DRLOCK.com.au has added their website to over 500 physical locations in Sydney. a search of locksmiths in sydney or any suburb in sydney only shows him. Not very helpful for customers trying to get a locksmith when he is busy ( this business only has one employee! )
I hope jen adds this one to be removed!
