Product Placement Freaks Me Out!

November 27th, 2006 by imnotadoctor

I have been noticing product placement more and more often in the last 3 months. Why is this? Has the dvr/TiVO craze finally hit the main stream? I wonder how many households have some type of dvr? I am not sure what the number is, but I am sure it is growing. Personally I love my DVR! Not sure what I would do on Thursdays nights because I have to watch Survivor ( I know it lame, but everyone can have at least one and if you don’t go find one) and The Office. With less people watching TV commercials product placement is becoming more common. For example, while watching The Office they had a great clip about a co-worker that is obessed with shredding things. See below:

What product were they plugging? If you said Staples give your self a cookie! The kicker is they went to commercial and the first ad on was for that shredder at Staples.

I am not sure how I feel about this. I like how it was not a cheesy product placement and was actually part of the show. But at the same time are all TV shows are going to be scripted around products? Because that would make one crappy show.

Now if they could make any product clickable for more information why watching the show I would Digg it!
